Once everyone had returned home, we headed out for dinner at an English pub.<\/p>\n

From there we went to the Taipei Lantern Festival. These were certainly not the lanterns that I expected.<\/p>\n

This morning I headed out to the nearby local market. Afterwards I took the Metro to the National Palace Museam, a museum of Chinese historical objects removed when the leadership moved to Taiwan.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

This rather unassuming object was used to help establish official units of measurement. It has multiple measurement units, including some that require flipping it upside-down!<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

From there I headed to the nearby night market (it wasn’t night so I had known it wouldn’t be that impressive, but it was nearby). and then to the Longshan Temple.<\/p>\n

A long day of motion, I headed back to John’s apartment. I’m pretty pleased with successfully navigating an array of metros and buses and getting back to where I started.<\/p>\n

My current plan is to leave Taipei in the morning for the rest of Taiwan. John’s going to cycle with me for a bit, navigating the way out of town. The bad weather of the past few days should be behind me for a bit. I need to pick a place to stay – it could be a love hotel!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
